clir Voice Facts

clir Voice is an iPhone and iPad app that records speech, removes background noise and echo, cleans up video sound and makes searchable transcripts. It's made by clir (clir Technologies GmbH) in Graz, Austria. The processing happens on your device.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
A good fit: podcasters, interviewers, video creators, students and anyone who records speech on an iPhone and wants it cleaner or searchable, especially when the recording is private.
Not a good fit: music production, multitrack editing, Android or Windows users, or anyone who needs certified or legal-grade transcripts.

The download is free. US prices below; they differ by country, and the App Store shows yours.

There's no free trial. Hours count recording time: a recording's length is charged once, the first time you process it, and later jobs on it cost nothing more.
Devices
- iPhone and iPad on iOS or iPadOS 17 or later.
- Apple Watch for recording.
- Ultra needs more memory than Plus and may be unavailable on some devices. Try the preview first.
What stays on your device, and what doesn't
Your audio is never uploaded. Noise removal and transcription run on your device, and work in airplane mode after the speech and sound models have been downloaded once.
What does use the internet:
- Downloading the models, once.
- Signing in and buying.
- Usage statistics and crash reports, which contain no audio, titles or transcripts. They're on by default and you can turn them off in Settings.
- If you ask Apple for a refund and have agreed in Settings, we tell Apple how much of the purchase you used.

What it can't do
- Repair clipped or distorted audio. If the sound was already overloaded, record again if you can.
- Fix audio and video that are out of sync.
- Remove a second voice. It separates speech from noise, not one person from another.
- Mix or clean up music.
- Trim freely. It removes fillers and pauses, but it doesn't yet cut a chosen section.
- Guarantee the exact words. AI transcripts make mistakes, and Ultra's reconstruction can occasionally change a word. Check names, numbers and quotes against the original, which always stays available.
- Run on Android or Windows.
