Terms of Use, clir Voice

Last updated: October 29, 2026

1. Who we are, and what these terms cover

These terms cover our app clir Voice (the "App") for iPhone and Apple Watch, including its widgets, its share extension, and its Siri and Shortcuts actions. The App is provided by clir Technologies GmbH, Stremayrgasse 16, 8010 Graz, Austria (referred to as "clir", "we", "us"). You can reach us at contact@clir.ai.

You get the App from Apple's App Store, so Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA") applies to your use of it. These terms add to the Apple EULA. Where they say something different, these terms apply between you and us. How the App handles your data is described in the clir Voice privacy policy.

By using the App you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.

2. The short version

3. Your account

To use the App you need an account, created with your email address and a password, with Sign in with Apple, or with Google. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us at contact@clir.ai if you think someone else is using your account. You can delete your account at any time in the App (Settings → Account → Delete Account). Deleting it doesn't cancel a subscription; that is done in your Apple account settings (see section 7).

4. AI-made content: check it before you rely on it

The App makes content with AI models that run on your device:

AI models get things wrong. A transcript can miss or mishear words, put words in the wrong speaker's mouth, or get names, numbers and technical terms wrong. A missing or misheard short word can turn a statement into its opposite, for example when "not" is dropped. A summary or an answer can leave out what matters, or say something the recording doesn't. Results are worse with noise, echo, people talking at once, accents, strong dialects or languages the App doesn't support.

The App therefore marks these results as AI-made: transcripts end with a note that they can contain mistakes, and summaries say that they were written by Apple Intelligence and can contain mistakes, also when you share them.

AI-made content is a working aid, not a verified record. Before you rely on it or pass it on, in particular to a client, a business partner, an authority or a court, check the passages that matter against the original recording. Don't use AI-made content without checking it for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions, or anywhere a mistake could harm someone. Whether you can use a transcript or a recording for a purpose, for example as evidence or as minutes, is for you to judge.

5. Ultra rebuilds the voice with AI

Plus removes background noise and keeps the voice as it was recorded. Ultra goes further: it removes noise and echo and then rebuilds the voice with AI. The result sounds like the speaker, but it is AI-generated audio, not the original sound. In rare cases the rebuilt voice can say a word differently from how it was spoken, or change it. Your original recording always stays as it was, and you can switch back to it in the player at any time.

When you share or export audio or a video with Ultra's sound, the App marks the file in its metadata as AI-generated, as the EU AI Act requires. Please don't remove this mark, and don't present Ultra's sound as an unedited recording where that matters, for example as evidence. Don't use Ultra to make it seem that someone said something they didn't say.

6. Your recordings, and the people in them

Your recordings, imports, transcripts and everything the App makes from them belong to you, as far as they belong to anyone. We claim no rights to them and never receive them: they are stored and processed on your devices (see the privacy policy).

You are responsible for what you record and import, and for what you do with it. Many countries restrict recording people without their knowledge or consent, and recording conversations you are not part of. Tell people when you record them, get their consent where the law requires it, and respect copyright when you import or share someone else's audio or video.

Because your recordings are only on your devices, we cannot restore them if they are lost. By default they are left out of iCloud and computer backups; you can turn on "Back Up Recordings to iCloud" in the App, or export what you want to keep.

7. Plans, hours and purchases

Recording, importing, playing, live captions within their free time, and two free previews each of Plus and Ultra per account are free. More is available as subscriptions and as one-off purchases of hours. What each plan or purchase includes (for example the enhancement it unlocks, the hours it adds, how unused hours carry over, and any limits on recording length) is shown in the App before you buy, and that description applies.

8. AI models and updates

The App's AI models are downloaded from our server after you agree to it in the App (see the privacy policy). Without them, the features that need them don't work. We improve the App and its models over time; an update can change how a feature works or what it produces. We keep the App and its models working as described for as long as we offer the App, and we provide the updates the law requires for you to keep using what you paid for.

Some features need a recent iPhone or iOS version, or Apple Intelligence (titles, summaries and Ask). The App Store page and the App say what is needed.

9. What you may not do

Please don't use the App to break the law or other people's rights, to record people where that isn't allowed, to deceive people with AI-generated audio, or to harass anyone. Don't copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the App or its models, except as far as the law allows, and don't try to get around its purchases, hours or previews. If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may close your account after warning you, unless the breach is so serious that a warning can't be expected of us.

10. Warranty

If you are a consumer, you have the statutory warranty rights for digital products (in Austria, under the Consumer Warranty Act, VGG). They are not limited by these terms. The App does what is described in it and on its App Store page. Because AI can make mistakes (see sections 4 and 5), an individual error in a transcript, summary or enhancement is not, on its own, a defect of the App.

11. Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, for personal injury, and under the Austrian Product Liability Act or other laws that cannot be limited by contract.

For damage caused through slight negligence, other than personal injury, we are liable only if we breached an obligation that is essential to the App working as described, and only for the damage typical of such a breach that could be foreseen when you started using the App.

We are not liable for consequences of relying on AI-made content without checking it against the recording as described in section 4, for example a message you send or a decision you take on the basis of an unchecked transcript or summary, as far as the law allows. Your own share in causing a damage is taken into account.

If you use the App for your business, our liability for slight negligence is excluded, as far as the law allows, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the App in the 12 months before the damage occurred. This does not apply to personal injury, or to intent and gross negligence.

12. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We will post changes on this page with an updated date. If a change affects you materially, we will tell you in the App before it takes effect. If you don't agree with a change, you can stop using the App, delete your account and cancel your subscription.

13. Law and courts

These terms are governed by Austrian law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you can take legal action in the courts there. For businesses, the courts of Graz, Austria, have jurisdiction.

If a provision of these terms is invalid, the rest of them remains valid.
